Holmen’s strategy contributes to the sustainable use of energy and materials to limit global warming. Holmen therefore does not distinguish between business goals and sustainability goals. We have sustainable business goals.
We have a holistic approach to responsible business and our work draws on the UN Global Compact. We see it as natural to support its ten principles on human rights, social and environmental responsibility, and anti-corruption.

Holmen’s business strategy is developed by Group management to create long-term value for both shareholders and customers. The strategy is established annually by the Board of Directors and forms the basis for the expectations that are set. Based on these expectations, each business area defines its objectives and identifies key success factors to achieve them.
Key performance indicators (KPIs) are linked to these success factors to monitor progress. The strategy also forms the foundation for the budget, where decisions on resource allocation are made and targets for the coming year are set. Continuous follow-up ensures that the entire organization makes the right priorities to achieve the established objectives.
The business areas steer operational activities toward the objectives through processes for procurement, production, and sales, supported by processes for finance, IT, HR, environment, sustainability, and communication. Performance is monitored through regular meetings with Group management and monthly reporting of progress and KPIs describing the business, complemented by qualitative analysis.
Sustainability reporting is integrated with financial reporting. In major investment decisions, financial, social, and environmental impacts are all taken into account.
The Group’s business and operational risks, including climate-related risks, are managed by the respective business areas, which make decisions regarding production, sales, and employees in order to achieve sustainable returns.
Holmen supports the ten principles of the UN Global Compact, the fundamental conventions of the International Labour Organization (ILO), OECD’s guidelines for multinational companies as well as the Modern Slavery Act. The content of this Code of Conduct, which is based on these principles and targets, clarifies what each employee can expect from their colleagues.
This Code of Conduct applies to all employees of the Holmen Group. Compliance with the standards in this Code of Conduct is crucial when choosing who we work with. Holmen works to ensure that its operations are characterised by responsible behaviour towards employees, shareholders, customers, suppliers, authorities, and other stakeholders.

Holmen works to contribute to the achievement of UN’s Global Goals for Sustainable Development. Holmen supports the principles of the UN Global Compact, the fundamental conventions of the International Labour Organization (ILO), OECD’s guidelines for multinational companies as well as the Modern Slavery Act. The Supplier Code of Conduct has been approved by the Board of Directors and clarifies what Holmen expects of its suppliers.
One of the purposes of the Code of Conduct is to improve our environmental footprint and conditions for everyone working in Holmen’s value chain.
Compliance with this Supplier Code of Conduct is taken into account when deciding who we want to work with and when evaluating ongoing contractual relationships. We employ an external partner, EcoVadis, to evaluate and follow up supplier compliance with our Code of Conduct in the areas of human rights, health and safety, the environment, business ethics and purchasing. The evaluation is tailored to the size of the supplier in terms of turnover and number of employees, and the supplier’s exposure to risk in terms of its geographical presence.
The Group’s purchasing should contribute to Holmen’s long-term profitability by a sustainable supply of raw materials, products and services in both the short and long term.
