Holmen and Vänersborg Municipality have signed a declaration of intent so that Vänersborg Municipality will take over Holmen's industrial property in Wargön at a price of SEK 16.7 million. This declaration of intent is valid provided that approval is obtained from the municipal executive board in Vänersborg Municipality at the meeting on 7 April 2010. The parties aim to sign a final agreement by 1 July 2010 at the latest.
According to the declaration of intent, Holmen will undertake to complete the demolition work already started and will also demolish other buildings, with the exception of the head office and staff centre. One prerequisite for signing a final agreement is that the environmental measures ordered by the authorities are carried out.
By taking over Holmen's industrial property, Vänersborg Municipality wishes to create the right conditions for establishing port operations and industries that provide future employment in the municipality.
