Who am I?

Hi! My name is Joakim Svensson and I work as a team manager in Energy & Environment. My journey began as a mechanic eight years ago, and after several years of practical work, I’ve recently been given the opportunity to take a new step in my career. It’s both challenging and rewarding – I enjoy combining technology, leadership and teamwork. This week I’m the person writing Holmen’s employee blog – welcome to a day in my life at work!

I work in Maintenance Energy & Environment, as part of a committed team with the drive to get things done. The job is fast-paced, with strong collaboration and varied tasks. We work closely with production and are often involved in both planning and problem-solving. This is a fast-paced workplace bursting with technical know-how and team spirit. You have to really think on your feet and get your hands dirty – and I like that.

 

A typical workday

My working day starts by reading ProTAK to see how the night went in my department and whether we need to work with the production technicians to update the weekly plan if a particular piece of equipment hasn’t been performing at its best in the past 24 hours. There is also a morning meeting with my team, where we go through the plan for the day and share out the jobs between us.

As team manager, I serve as both support for my colleagues and a link to other parts of the organisation. I try to be out on the ground with my colleagues as much as possible during the busiest periods. My job is to ensure that my employees’ working week is as well planned as possible and that everything flows smoothly for them, but things can sometimes change unexpectedly and then you have to work with operations to reprioritise. You might not even have time to start on the planned job before you have to switch. The day can involve everything from responding to emergencies to long-term planning, meetings, health and safety issues... No two days are the same, and it’s that variety that makes going to work so enjoyable.

I’ve been encouraged to grow in my role, and there is always support from both colleagues and management.
