Holmen's business is based on the power found in the forests, rivers and winds. It focuses on how we with technology and engineering can create the fossil-free and recyclable products the world needs.

For 400 years, we have taken care of the forest's and land's assets and refined them into value-creating products and services. Our products have changed over time, but the willingness to offer solutions to current challenges has always been there.

As a Swedish forestry company with a smart and circular business, we have a fantastic opportunity to be a positive force in the green transition.

We grow houses, we grow change

We manage the forest in a future-smart way for the benefit of the wood. Our wood products become buildings, furniture, decking and other useful things. Something as simple as a plank creates great value, both for forest owners and for the climate.

 

We are also the only forest company to use our land to produce renewable energy from wind and water. When we grow houses, we are growing change at the same time.

Climate benefit in our value chain

In 2022 we contributed a climate benefit totalling 7.2 million tonnes of carbon dioxide. This is equivalent to 15 per cent of total emissions within Sweden’s borders.

 

  • 1.3 million tonnes net were absorbed and stored in our growing forests 
  • 4,7 million tonnes were stored in and replaced by wood products (3,1) and paper and cardboard (1.6)
  • 1.9 million tonnes were replaced by our renewable production of electricity from wind and water (1.3) and from bioenergy (0.6)
  • The fossil emissions from fuel at Holmen's production units have decreased by 90 percent since 2005.
