Holmen produces wood products from pine, spruce and lodgepole pine. Spruce wood products are used in load-bearing structures such as roof trusses and floor systems. Pine is used in interiors, e.g. for furniture, windows, doors, flooring, decking and fencing. Lodgepole pine is a relatively new tree species.
What is the difference between these tree species?
Both spruce and pine are coniferous trees. Their wood is known as softwood. Wood from different tree species has different densities depending on variations in the moisture content. The density of wood from the same tree species can also vary, depending on whether the tree has grown quickly or slowly.
Pine wood products
Pine is ideal for wood products with aesthetic quality requirements such as furniture, flooring and decking. Pine is also well suited to products with particularly high strength requirements.
Lodgepole pine products
The great advantage of the lodgepole pine is that it grows significantly faster than the common pine. This is also good from a climate perspective because it binds carbon dioxide more quickly.
