Raw material supply and investments

Access to raw materials has been and remains a challenge, especially in southern Sweden and in other parts of the world too. Bark beetle infestations and new discussions about how the forest should be used have had a negative impact on availability. Despite this, Holmen has continued to invest in our industries, especially at Iggesund Sawmill. At Iggesund, we have expanded operations from only producing wood products from Scots pine to now also sawing spruce and lodgepole pine, bringing greater flexibility. Scots pine production continues to be the backbone of the business, accounting for around 70 per cent of volumes across the year. We have also commissioned a new planing mill and expanded our finishing at all sawmills.

Health and safety a top priority

As well as investing in our industrial sites, 2025 has seen us prioritising health and safety in every part of the business. More committed than ever, we have invested in healthier and more supportive workplaces where safety and well-being are always front and centre. This is and will remain integral to our development.

Regional development

The raw material challenge has hit hardest in southern Sweden, prompting us to reduce production volumes at our sawmills in Braviken and Linghem as a result. In northern Sweden, on the other hand, we are in a stronger situation, and our sawmills there have developed positively during the year.

Wood – the building material of the future

Wood is and will remain an attractive, environmentally friendly and sustainable building material. In fact, we are seeing wood continue to capture market share, especially as a framing material in construction. The combination of sustainability and aesthetics is unique, as our projects headed by Martinsons Building System ably demonstrate. One impressive example is the new lounge at Terminal 5 of Arlanda Airport, where glulam originating from our sustainably managed forests in Västerbotten creates a stunningly beautiful and relaxing environment – stop off there for a coffee or a beer the next time you are heading off on an international flight or returning home from a trip to Sweden.

Thank you for this year’s hard work and collaboration

I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all our employees, customers and partners for your commitment and effort during the year. Together we have overcome challenges and built on Holmen’s strengths. Your work and your loyalty mean such a lot.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

I would like to wish you all a peaceful Christmas and a good year for wood products in 2026 – thank you for helping to build a sustainable future with Holmen.

Best regards,

Johan Padel
