At Holmen Paper, we are part of more than one circular system. As a paper supplier we know how important it is that we source, produce and deliver our products sustainably. This is both a promise for the future and a relevant business value that we bring our customers.
When you buy or use a product from Holmen Paper, the material is renewable and traceable, coming from sustainably managed forests. After the paper is used, it’s fed into the recycling system. An inflow of fresh fibre paper is needed to keep the system of recycled papers going, to maintain the quality needed for making graphical papers.
Paper has the largest recycling rate of all materials in Europe and in most parts of the world. With local presence all over the world we help our customers to make sustainable business choices, based on their circumstances and needs.
Producing paper also makes sense as part of the circular approach of Holmen Group, where all parts of the trees are put into use, and where the transports are made as short as possible from sawmills to paper mills. Our production process includes making the best possible use of energy and minimizing waste by processing and repurposing. Replanting trees is important, and so is reusing and restoring clean water, air and soil.
Holmen can make a difference because all our business areas complement each other: Holmen Forest, Holmen Wood products, Holmen Energy, Holmen Iggesund Paperboard and Holmen Paper. Our growing forests reduce carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Our hydro- and wind power plants contribute to the renewable energy transformation. And our products can substitute fossil alternatives on different markets. We work together to grow a sustainable future.
The new Holmen identity is based on the duality of nature and technology. The logotype has undergone some changes and become more vital, by combining soft rounded shapes with sharper cut edges.
From the wordmark of the logotype a headline typeface has been constructed. It’s a display monotype, Holmen Tree, drawing on the technical characteristics – where every letter takes up the same width in space – and it is combined with the human and friendly typeface IBM Plex Sans, for great readability of body text.
Both typeface character sets support over one hundred languages and the body text typeface comes in six different weights.
Having this strong link between the logo and the headline typeface will over time build up a powerful link to help the readers quickly decode the sender of our messages. The headlines and the visual language will signal Holmen, at the first glance and throughout the deeper communication.
There is a primary colour set with four natural and four technical colours, to be combined in a way that highlights how natural and technical complements each other. There’s also a secondary colour palette with softer colours to make room for more flexibility and ensuring a dynamic expression. Some of the colour choices are illustrated by the symbol “the dynamic H” that you can experience both as a letter and as part of the design grid. And as our favicon in social media.
The imagery shows how we draw our inspiration from nature and technology. Sustainable forestry paired with technical development. Natural environments, often with magical light settings, or technical content where we see organic shapes or note the human presence in form of details. Of course, people, products and processes are also important. Everything is connected, and we include both micro and macro perspectives.
