All our paperboard products can be laminated or combined with different barriers and coatings to add protection, strength, and design opportunities to your packaging.
Polyethylene (PE)
Polyethylene (PE) coated paperboard is suitable for disposable cups or packaging for frozen foods, meat products, and chocolate. The PE barrier provides a simple yet efficient way to heat-seal end products.
Polyethylene terephthalate (PET)
Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) barriers provide good sealability and act as an excellent oxygen and fat barrier. They are also extremely temperature-resistant and highly suitable for applications such as PET-coated dual-ovenable food trays.
Bio-E
Our Bio E barrier is based on renewable resources and adapted for organic recovery through composting or anaerobic digestion. The material is suitable for applications where biodegradability is desired.
Metalprint
Metalprint has exceptional surface smoothness and offers excellent barrier properties. It is typically used for premium packaging applications where decorative printing is a must.
Metalprint Digital
Metalprint Digital is metallised PET laminated paperboard, especially developed and certified for printing without pre-treatment in the HP Indigo 4-series.
Alubarrier
Alubarrier is the densest barrier in our portfolio and is commonly used for sensitive products like crisps, ice cream and cereals. Extrusion-laminating the aluminium foil makes the paperboard impermeable to light, moisture, flavours, and gases.

PEFC certificates
PEFC (PEFC/05-33-134 and PEFC/05-33-105) is short for Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes. It was initially a European system for certifying forestry, but it has gained global recognition. Read more at www.pefc.org.

A certified product can be composted in an industrial composting facility in accordance with the European standard EN 13432.

EcoVadis
EcoVadis is a global provider of business sustainability ratings, and is often used by transnational companies to screen their supply chains. EcoVadis conducts approximately 30,000 assessments annually, and the results can be shared with subscribers to the system. Holmen's paper and paperboard mills have received top ratings for several years, and have also been awarded EcoVadis Platinum level, meaning that both mills are within the top one per cent of all companies assessed.
