Our efficient forestry, focusing on high growth and biodiversity conservation, creates value for everyone from customers and shareholders to local communities. Based on our large forest holdings, we use forest raw materials in a way that helps phase out the need for fossil-based raw materials.
Holmen is one of the largest forest owners in Sweden. We manage the forest actively and sustainably to make sure it grows optimally, giving us the best raw material. Adopting a long-term view, we take responsibility for the forest ecocycle from seed to replanting while safeguarding biodiversity. Our employees manage our forests, buy wood and help private forest owners with harvesting and forest conservation.

Holmen refines the material of the future, and the only completely renewable construction material – wood. In modern sawmills, we produce sawn and refined wood products for joinery, construction and builders’ merchants. We also offer customised solutions for climate-smart, large-scale building in wood. We have five sawmills, all of which hold chain-of-custody certification and are located close to our forest holdings in northern and southern Sweden.

Holmen produces premium paperboard and innovative paper products for everything from cosmetics, electronics, pharmaceuticals and food to books, magazines, advertising and transport packaging. Our products are appreciated by conscious customers due to their exceptional properties and low climate footprint.
We use fresh fibre from sustainably managed forests and have a total of four production facilities in Sweden and in the UK.
Holmen produces renewable energy from wind and water. We wholly own or co-own 21 hydro power plants in Sweden and are investing in building more wind power on our own land. Alongside energy production, we develop other opportunities on our land, such as real estate and quarries.

The best thing we can do for the climate is to help more customers to replace fossil sources with renewables. It is here too that Holmen’s contribution to the green transition becomes most tangible – when our products reduce the need for fossil products and raw materials. In this way, coal, oil, and gas can remain in the ground.
