Formable Solid Bleached Board

Inverform is a multi-layered product (solid bleached board, SBB), entirely based on fresh fibres. Specific fibre compositions are used for the various layers in the construction to optimise performance. The outer layers are dominated by hardwood fibres to promote smoothness and printability. The middle layer consists of softwood fibres for strength, flexibility and formability.

Product description

Inverform with a Bio E coating has been specially developed for ready-made food packaging. Bio E offers an option that relies less on fossil-based resources than conventional barriers. It is commonly used for pressed and folded food trays as well as for cups and containers.

Bio E is made from 75 per cent renewable raw materials and is approved for industrial composting. The material is suitable for applications where biodegradability is desired. The bio-based coating is both liquid and grease-resistant and fulfils requirements for food contact. The polymer is heat-sealable. It conforms to the European Standard regarding compostability, EN 13432, and also works well in most recycling systems.

Tolerances Methods/Remarks
Added grammage (g/m²) 25-35 +/- 5% ISO 536
Added thickness (µm) 20-24 - Calculated value

Surface tensions (dynes/cm) ≥ 42 - ISO 8296
Adhesion 5 ≥ 4 Internal
Pin holes (no/m²) 0 - PTN 8-70 (modified)

The surface tension level can be affected after delivery by conditions beyond our control. Regarding Adhesion, the scale ranges from 1 to 6 (6 = the best possible adhesion on the concerned surface).

Holmen recommends a maximum 1 (one) year time limit, from delivery, for board in storage. For paperboard with barriers or foil lamination, the recommended storage time is no longer than 6 (six) months due to the declining effect of any surface treatments.

The above recommendations are only valid if the product is stored in its original wrapping.

Test methods

All properties are measured in test climate 23°C/50% RH at Iggesund Mill. Tolerances and max/min levels, when stated, are based upon a 95% confidence interval within each production run. Read more about testing methods in our General Technical Information.
