The sawmill now also accepts more tree species and has started producing new products – opening up new markets and gaining new customers.
“The investment in the resaw secures our continued operation, giving us higher speeds and greater flexibility on the saw line. This improves our agility and enhances our ability to adapt to the market – which is great for our profitability,” says mill manager Magnus Malmström.
Alongside the addition of the resaw, other parts of the saw line, including the board separator and the horizontal saw, have been replaced in a modernisation drive that means larger motors, better control and capacity, and faster hydraulics.
With Linck as a total supplier of the entire saw line and its associated control systems, reliability is assured. The workforce now faces the demanding job of learning a new technology and adapting to new practices.
“The main challenge has been running our regular operations in parallel with the investment projects. Almost all our employees have been affected in some form or other, and they’ve shown incredible commitment, finding new ways of working and solving problems as they go. I’m impressed by the fantastic job they’re doing,” says Magnus.
Replacing the resaw brings several positive effects, from a better saw yield to driving up productivity, improving the product mix and boosting profitability.
“Our sawmills are the hub of our circular business and wood is the future. With this and previous investments, we’ve now updated the saw line to last for many years to come,” says Victor Holmquist, Head of Industry at Holmen Wood Products.
