Over the course of eight episodes, a derelict old summer house will be renovated from the ground up. The house sits on a beach by the sea in Österlen, down in the south of Sweden. The glulam posts and beams installed in the building come from Bygdsiljum Sawmill, which has been part of Holmen since last autumn.

“When the chance to take part in Sommar med Ernst came up, we thought it was an ideal opportunity to showcase our fantastic glulam products,” says Johan Hedin, Marketing Manager for Holmen Wood Products.

Glulam products entered Holmen’s product range with the acquisition of Martinsons. Holmen’s glulam posts and beams are used mostly in large wooden buildings such as apartment blocks, schools and sports halls, but they can also be used just as successfully in smaller buildings and houses.

In September, Holmen and Martinsons will once again be in the spotlight for their glulam, cross-laminated timber (CLT) and structural expertise, when Sara Kulturhus in Skellefteå officially opens.

At almost 80 metres, the 20-storey centre for culture and the arts will be one of the tallest wooden buildings in the world. 2 600 m3 of glulam from Holmen and 10 700 m3 of CLT have been used in the structural frame, which was engineered and assembled by Martinsons Byggsystem.

Sommar med Ernst premieres today, 24 June, on TV4 and TV4 Play, with episodes every Thursday for the next eight weeks.
