Who am I?
Hello!
Now it’s my turn to tell you a bit about my journey at Holmen, so here it goes!
My name is Mikael Eliasson and I work as an Environment and Sustainability specialist at Holmen Wood Products. I started out as a maintenance technician in 2015, but moved into this position in February 2025.
I live in Forsa, near Iggesund, with my partner, as well as my dog and cat. My partner and I do a lot of gardening at home, when we’re not relaxing in our seaside cottage, just reading and swimming. I’m also keen on hunting, so autumn is an exciting season that I always look forward to.

My workplace
The Sustainability Department is a small team of three people who support our five sawmills in the Wood Products business area, which also includes Martinsons Building System. Our work largely consists of reporting environmental and sustainability data both internally and externally, but we also coordinate work on permit issues, inspection visits and our ISO, PEFC and FSC certifications. In addition, we are available to support the other business areas and we answer our customers’ questions too.
I spend most of my time in the office in Iggesund, but my work sometimes takes me to Umeå or Norrköping.
What does a working day look like?
The day usually starts with a cup of coffee and checking the diary to see what meetings are scheduled. Mondays always start with our weekly online briefing where we update each other and prioritise the week’s activities.
The day then continues with a number of other meetings, focusing on anything from environmental reporting or audit planning to working with our sawmills, as well as more routine topics. Many of my colleagues are based a long way from Iggesund, so we can often be found in online meetings on Teams.
As lunchtime approaches, I might go for a brisk walk with our dog, when she gets to come to work with me. There is usually a visit to the gym with colleagues from Wood Products and Forest, who are in the same building as me. That gives me a good energy boost. You’d be surprised how many work issues get sorted out while running on a treadmill!
I share the office with my colleague Arne, who is mentoring me during my induction in this new role. He’s the person I talk to most during the day and he always takes the time to listen. We learn a lot from each other.
Whenever possible, I also like to go down to the sawmill in Iggesund for meetings with my colleagues.

Why Holmen?
Until I joined Holmen in 2015, I really knew very little about the company.
Now I’ve been working at Holmen for a number of years, I have a much deeper appreciation of what Holmen is all about.
In my experience, the people who work at Holmen have been incredibly friendly and cooperative on all the assignments I’ve had. This is such a strength and a key success factor for Holmen.
My own ambition is to constantly improve, and to learn more so I can help others.
We also have a lot of fun at work with plenty of laughs, which spurs me on to do a good job!
I’ve really enjoyed writing a little bit about my working day. Maybe reading this might inspire someone out there to think about working in sustainability at some point in the future.
That’s all from me!
