A safe and healthy workplace

Holmen works hard to ensure a safe working environment. The goal is naturally to reduce the number of work-related accidents.

Holmen endeavours to create a good working environment that is both safe and stimulating. We want our employees to feel safe and stay healthy. All production units have certified management systems in place for health and safety work. We train all new employees at our factories in safe working practices. In addition to that, all our managers and safety officers receive longer training over at least three days.

All of our employees have access to a company health service that provides rehabilitation, amongst other things, and supports return to work. Sick leave has dropped sharply in recent years, and we believe this is due to our committed work on health and fitness.

Meet Michael Lundqvist, Health and Safety Engineer and Coordinator for the safety work in Holmen.

Hi there! How would you describe Holmen’s work on health and safety?

- Holmen as an employer has great responsibility for health and safety. We work actively to assess risk, invest in safe equipment, eradicate unsafe elements and set up procedures that ensure workplace safety. But working on behaviours is equally important. Our golden rule is – Stop work if a situation or behaviour is unsafe.

Is there anything in particular that you would like to highlight to do with health and safety in the workplace?

- We have a structure for dealing with health and safety where everyone is close to decision-making. The mill managers are involved in this work and through the Work Environment Network the health and safety engineers are tasked with working on different issues in this field. Our approach will pay off, making efforts and decisions relevant and supported. What we’re doing at Holmen is genuine and we’ve succeeded well in this area.

What do you think is the key success factor for your work?

- Sponsorship at every level. We talk about health and safety at management level and all the way through the organisation.
