Why did you apply for a summer job at Holmen?
I applied for a summer job at Holmen after meeting Holmen’s representatives at a career fair at my university. They spoke very highly of Holmen as a workplace, which made me really excited about working here. They mainly talked about summer jobs in the industry, which I also applied for. However, during the interview, I found out that I was being considered for the role of logistics coordinator instead, which of course I couldn’t say no to.

How would you describe your time at Holmen?
Very educational. It’s fun, after studying logistics for a year, to get a sense of what a future workplace could look like. Even though you learn a lot in school, it’s completely different—and really enjoyable—to work practically with what you’re studying for.

Also, the work team is fantastic; everyone is friendly, and it’s clear that Holmen as an employer truly cares about its employees.

What was the most interesting or educational part of your job? What will you take with you?
It has to be bringing theoretical knowledge into the “real world.” You have an idea of what it’s like to work in logistics, and while some things match that, it’s so much broader than I imagined. I’ve learned so much about forestry, which has been really exciting!

What was the best thing about your summer job at Holmen?
Probably that no two days are the same, for several reasons. You never know what problems will arise and need solving, and you also have a lot of freedom in the job. We work with flexible hours, which means you can work almost when and where you want, as long as you attend meetings and get your tasks done, of course. For example, I like starting early so I can finish earlier in the afternoon.

What expectations did you have, and was there anything that surprised you?
I was surprised by how much I needed to learn about forestry. In hindsight, it’s probably obvious that you need to know quite a bit, since during the summer I’m the closest contact for the forestry companies, so I need to understand what they’re talking about. But it was definitely something I didn’t expect.
That said, it’s not something I had to study on my own—everyone around me is very knowledgeable and always answers questions, which you’ll definitely have in the beginning. ;)

Is there anything else you’d like to highlight or share about working as a summer employee at Holmen?
I want to highlight all the colleagues and the sense of community at Holmen Skog. During my time here, I’ve been treated incredibly well, and even if they might get tired of my questions after a while, it never shows. Colleagues always answer and make sure you don’t feel stupid. There’s also a great sense of community between the different offices, and we talk to each other every day. So you don’t need to worry about being left alone in the office when others go on vacation—there’s always someone you can call.

Could you see yourself working at Holmen again?
YES! If it wasn’t clear already, Holmen is a great workplace with amazing colleagues. The job is sometimes challenging, but very rewarding, and I’ve learned so much during this summer.
