Forestry is of significant regional importance. It creates employment in rural areas and enables many people to live and work outside the big cities. Holmen plays a significant role as an employer in a number of locations and not only creates jobs in the Group but also for suppliers of goods and services and various functions of society. This means that Holmen contributes significant tax revenue in Sweden and in the other countries in which we operate. This sees us fulfilling our responsibilities to society and we pay our taxes in line with the legislation and rules in force in all the countries in which we operate.
Large parts of Holmen’s land in northern Sweden overlap Sami winter grazing land for reindeer. Solutions that meet both parties’ requirements as closely as possible are attained via consultation with the reindeer herding community.
Sustainably managed forests are not only important from a climate-related and economic perspective, they are also important for people’s wellbeing and as a place for recreation, hunting and fishing, which indirectly is of major financial significance for society.
Beyond this, Holmen contributes to economic development through investments, research and development, and cooperation with companies and organisations in several of the places where the Group operates.
