Forests and climate goals
Forests are key players in achieving climate targets. Some argue that it would be best for the climate if all the forests were left standing. Others say that we need to manage the forest continuously and make use of the wood that comes out of it. "The reality is a mix of the two", says Peter Holmgren, senior adviser in forestry and sustainability.
The climate change convention set up two goals:
- Reduce Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions
- Make sure that the carbon sinks in our ecosystem are protected and enhanced
Why Forest Products Matter
What we make from the forest truly does make a difference for the climate. Watch the video to know more about the current discussions and how we at Holmen work to optimise the benefits from actively managed forests.
We always harvest less than the annual growth; over the last 70 years, the standing stock in our forest has increased every year.
