Holmen PACK, developed as concept paper TYPE3, is a white semi-kraft paper with a smooth finish, made from fresh wood-fibres. It’s a light-weight paper with adequate mechanical strength for industrial, converting, and end consumer use.
With its great printing properties, it’s ideally suited for all types of flexible packaging solutions. Some areas of use are branded consumer bags, bags for dry foods, bread, fruits and vegetables, or bags and wrapping for other goods.
Our genuine sustainability – in all from raw material and production, all the way to a recycling long life-span – makes the paper a natural and smart choice for all industrial applications. Its smoothness makes it equally good as a base paper, for interleaving, and for paper-bagging as an environmental-friendly substitute for polybagging.
Semi-kraft paper advantages
This packaging paper meets a market surge, since the switch from plastics-based packaging has a high impact on industrial and consumer demand. Holmen PACK, made from fresh-fibre-based pulp, is 100% traceable, repulpable and recyclable. As it is a semi-kraft paper, it combines the strength of a kraft paper with the bulky properties and the light weight of a wood-containing paper. It helps preserving the quality of wrapped or interleaved items throughout handling and storage. The paper is thin but still strong and thick enough, forming a protective layer.
Approved for food contact
Holmen PACK is certified for direct food contact according to both BfR and FDA. Sustainably produced, this paper is ready to enter the fight against plastics. It is tested and proven, meeting the demands for consumer bags in retail industries, supermarket fruit and vegetables, and fast-food collective packaging.
FDA food contact approval
FDA stands for the United States’ Food and Drug Administration. The FDA approval confirms that the paper is allowed to be exported to the US for food contact, to be sold directly but also for further processing and refinement. To get the approvals, the surface of the material has to be free of any toxic contaminants and the material should not potentially become a source of toxic contamination.
BfR food contact approval
BfR stands for Bundesinstitut für Risikobewertung, which is the German federal institute for risk assessment. Being approved by BfR confirms adherence to the Framework regulation (EC) No. 1935/2004, which applies to all food contact materials within the European Union.
