A heavy innovation that makes everything lighter

We believe in lightweight packaging and challenging old conventions. The machine developed by Holmen Board and Paper is not only technologically groundbreaking, it also produces products that are an essential part of people's everyday lives, products whose origins we rarely reflect on.

Buying heavy is no light matter

In a perfect world, all the paper that we produce is weightless and stronger than today. That’s our ambition. We know it won’t happen overnight, but we’re committed to challenging conventions and reshaping the packaging industry to make it lighter, one of the most exciting areas to explore and advance.

The case for lighter solutions

In Sweden, 516 million tonnes of goods are transported on trucks every year. Swedes shop e-commerce goods for 250 billion SEK, and 2.2 million tonnes of containerboard were produced in Sweden in 2024 – Packaging and transports don’t seem to be declining. Getting your goods delivered unharmed is essential, but packaging materials also have a big environmental impact.

Making a difference

Here we can truly make a difference with smarter and lighter packaging materials that lead to more efficient logistics and a better outlook for the environment. If we can lower the weight of all our transports, use less raw materials in everything we do, then it will be better for the environment, the economy, and us humans.

The core of packaging

Every gram counts in the quest for lighter transports. The fact that we also succeed in making more board from the same amount of raw material, while releasing 83% less CO2 than the average European paper producer, decreases the total imprint of the board’s life cycle even more. Our aim is to elevate the world of packaging.

Our containerboard and packaging paper

Our products of containerboard and packaging paper is certified for food contact and can be used safely and in contact with dry, moist and fatty food. The fresh fibres that we use to make our packaging papers give the paper bulky properties which makes it a great, lightweight alternative, here to elevate climate-smart packaging and void fill.
