At Holmen, we operate according to globally recognised standards for forest stewardship and management of environmental, energy and quality aspects. All standards are integrated into business procedures and reviewed annually by internal specialists and external, certified auditors.
Chain of custody certificates
FSC® certificates
FSC® (FSC®-C020071, FSC®-C110018, FSC®-C006796 and FSC®-C008588) stands for Forest Stewardship Council® and is an international system for certifying forestry that has the support of many environmental organisations. Read more at https://ic.fsc.org/en.

PEFC certificates
PEFC (PEFC/05-33-134 and PEFC/05-33-105) is short for Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes. It was initially a European system for certifying forestry, but it has gained global recognition. Read more at www.pefc.org.

FSSC 22000 is a leading food safety management system that provides a certification model for use in the food manufacturing industry and its related supply chain, ensuring adherence to food safety standards and processes.

EcoVadis
EcoVadis is a global provider of business sustainability ratings, and is often used by transnational companies to screen their supply chains. EcoVadis conducts approximately 30,000 assessments annually, and the results can be shared with subscribers to the system. Holmen's paper and paperboard mills have received top ratings for several years, and have also been awarded EcoVadis Platinum level, meaning that both mills are within the top one per cent of all companies assessed.

A certified product can be composted in an industrial composting facility in accordance with the European standard EN 13432.

ISEGA is an acknowledged certifying body that performs testing and certifying in a variety of areas. The below products have been deemed safe to use for food packaging and stand in direct contact with dry, moist and fatty foodstuffs.

EU Ecolabel
EU Ecolabel is the official ecolabel of the European Union. The ecolabeling criteria are established by responsible bodies in the Member States. To achieve certification, the products are assessed from a life cycle perspective from raw material to waste. The products must meet strict environmental, functional, and quality requirements.
