Corporate social responsibility

Holmen is committed to supporting thriving, inclusive communities where we operate. Through responsible partnerships in areas like Norrköping, Hallstavik, Hudiksvall, Iggesund and Workington, we promote wellbeing, youth opportunities, culture and sustainability. Together with our partners, we find new paths to mutual success.

Our CSR approach

CSR and partnership activities are often equated with sponsorship. And naturally, our initiatives are still, to some extent, about financial investments, but even more so about investing in time, development, and ambassadorship together with our local partners. In our areas, we have deliberately chosen to move from a focus on visual exposure alone to a partnership platform where our partners and we become extensions of each other's brands. Our sponsorships are naturally aligned with the Holmen Group policy.

 

The collaborations include a wide range of activities. However, the foundation remains the same: the sharing of core values, a focus on common activities, and clear goals for the future. All the joy, proud moments, and wise insights from meetings with our partners make us smarter, stronger, and more humble. Together we make each other better.

Our community efforts focus largely on supporting integration, diversity, gender equality and young people.

  • Among those we sponsor in Sweden are Hey Activity, which focuses on creating meaningful leisure time for children and young people in our municipality.
  • The Glada Hudik Theatre, is a theatre group of people with intellectual disabilities working internationally and nationally to reduce prejudice.
  • We also have a long-standing commitment to the IGE Day (Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day) to encourage more young women to select engineering as a profession.  

Local activities in Workington

Among other efforts, our Workington Mill is active in the local community. For example, through Gen2. Holmen founded this training provider in partnership with other large regional employers to strengthen local job training schemes and provide apprenticeships.

The Workington Mill sponsors charitable causes in the region and provides annual Christmas trees to nearby towns and villages.
