Holmen uses recovered paper in the form of collected newspapers, magazines and directories at its mills in Braviken and Madrid.
At Braviken recovered paper is used in the production of newsprint and directory paper. The admixture rate varies between 30 and 60 per cent. In Madrid production is based solely on recovered paper.
PÅAB in Sweden
Holmen’s part owned company PÅAB is responsible for the collected paper. Just over half the volume comes from within the country and the rest is imported from Great Britain, Norway and Denmark. The paper from Great Britain is shipped on their return leg by the vessels used to ship paper products to Great Britain.
CARPA in Spain
Much of the recovered paper used at the mill in Madrid comes from CARPA, a wholly owned paper collection company, and from part owned companies. Most of it is sourced in Spain with some volumes also being imported from Portugal, southern France and Great Britain.
